Taking Care of Your Tattoo : Advices from Your Tattoo Artist!

The procedure of getting a tattoo is easy, but taking care of it afterwards is not so easy, unfortunately. Because tattoo aftercare is not only a matter of making sure your tattoo stays cool for a long time, it is very important because it will also affect your skin and overall health. But don't worry, it is not extremely hard to take care of your tattoo, just make sure you listen to your tattoo artist and follow these steps :

DO'S :

1. Keep your protective film on for the first 2 - 3 days. This helps protect your freshly tattoo wound from bacterias. The protective film is flexible, breathable, and waterproof,

Note : You can take off your protective film before 3 days if the following happens :

    • There's an allergic reaction, usually your whole tattooed area will feel itchy and inflamed
    • There's a leakage of plasma, blood, and excess of ink coming out of the protective film. The gap may give an opening for the bacterias, so it's better to take it off.

2. After removing your protective film, gently clean your tattooed area with anti-bacterial, no alcohol, and no fragrance wet wipes (make sure your hands are clean) and moisturize them with a thin layer of ointment,

3. Be sure to gently clean your tattoo with anti-bacterial wet wipes and moisturize your tattooed area twice or three times a day, Wear sun protective clothing whenever you go outside,

4. Drink enough water to stay hydrated and keep your skin moisturized.

DON'TS :

1. Pick, scratch, or peel your tattoo. It can cause an infection, leave scars, and/or remove the ink from your tattoo,

2. Use hot water to clean your tattoo,

3. Use washcloths or loofahs to clean and/or scrub your tattooed area. It's too harsh and can exfoliate your raw skin,

4. Use whitening soap/moisturizer during the healing process,

5. Wear tight clothing over the tattoo,

6. Go swimming during the healing process.
